How is Food Not Lawns different from other groups?

Food not Lawns operates on a mutual aid model and actively work to remove all barriers to participation. You don’t even need a lawn! There are no membership fees or dues. Everyone participates to their own level of comfort, energy, and expertise, and everyone has equal input as to how this organization will operate. There are no directors and no volunteers. We are all equally able to fill either/both roles. Everyone has something meaningful to contribute! We are also mutual aid oriented in that this work aims to create healing relationships between people and the earth and other living beings. Our work also models how to self-organize, decenter "authority", dream the world we want to live in, and practice our values in the present moment as best we can. All ages, abilities and identities welcome!

What if I don't have a lawn or a garden?

You don't have to! The idea of Food Now Lawns is one based on community: there are people who have garden space but not the ability to garden, while others lack the land but have the time to garden. What if we could connect those two people alongside building community around sharing the abundance offered by nature, and share the skills we know related to gardening and food preservation?
